THE LOCATION
Vernon Township is in Sussex County New Jersey, USA. It is located about 1 hour from New York City and was established on April 8, 1793. Iron mining was prevalent during the mid-to-late 19th century. Mines such as Canister Mine, Williams Mine, and the Pochuck Mine created industry which spawned local businesses and brought rail travel to the town.
Today Vernon and the immediate area is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Here you will find a landscape consisting of residential and resort communities, farmland, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, bird watching, barns, horse farms and stables, lakes, fishing, and just so much natural beauty. The famous Appalachian Trail (AT) even runs through it! You will be amazed on what you will find only 1 hour outside of New York City.

We’ve stayed at many AirBnBs at the Appalachian. This rental was on par with the others we’ve stayed at, which is to say great. You can’t beat the location if you like to ski and go in a hot tub. This was a great spot for a little time away. The pool was nice, and the water park is walking distance and not overly expensive. Gerry gives a lot of suggestions for where to go. We went to Warwick to eat at ‘Fetch’ and then to another spot called Brick and Brew. Grocery stores aren’t far.
For me the bed was very firm and hard to sleep on, and I ended up on the sofa bed, which is the opposite, but worked for me. Gerry is very helpful and will be very responsive to you; he was for us. I’d come back with more people.

Accommodations met our needs! We visited over a holiday weekend and despite cold/rainy weather we enjoyed our stay. It was unclear what summer amenities would be open coming out of COVID restrictions - at least one hot tub was open during our visit which was nice. Fire place in the room was a bonus.
